Fogged and Failed Insulated Glass

In many cases, the failed insulated glass unit can be replaced while the existing window or curtain wall framing remains in place. Our team measures the unit, identifies the glass makeup and coating requirements, obtains the replacement, and installs it in the existing system when conditions allow. Replacing the glass unit can restore clarity and improve the performance of the opening without requiring replacement of the complete window or framing system.

Storefront and Entrance Glass Replacement

Herzog Glass replaces storefront panels, commercial door glass, sidelites, transoms, and all-glass entrance components. If permanent replacement glass is not immediately available, our emergency team can remove immediate hazards and temporarily secure the opening. We will then measure, obtain, and install the permanent replacement. Our service team can also inspect the surrounding framing, doors, and hardware to determine whether additional repairs are needed.

Curtain Wall and Commercial Window Glass

Herzog Glass replaces individual glass units in many curtain wall, window wall, ribbon window, and other commercial glazing systems. Our team documents the existing conditions and coordinates the glass, gaskets, sealants, pressure plates, caps, and other components involved in the replacement. We can also help investigate failed seals, fogging, cracked glass, damaged exterior caps, and water infiltration associated with the glazing system.

How it comes together

In-House Fabrication and Replacement Coordination

Herzog Glass operates an approximately 30,000-square-foot fabrication facility where we cut, edge, drill, paint, and prepare many types of glass. These capabilities give us greater control over custom dimensions, shapes, openings, edge finishes, and other fabrication details.

Some replacement products, including tempered glass, laminated glass, insulated glass units, and specialty coated glass, require outside manufacturing or additional processing. Our service team identifies the correct product, coordinates its production, and completes the installation when it is ready.

Combining field measurement, in-house capabilities, material procurement, and installation within one experienced team helps reduce coordination problems and keeps customers informed throughout the replacement process.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you replace one insulated glass unit in a curtain wall?

Yes. Individual insulated glass units can often be replaced without removing the entire curtain wall system. We document the existing unit and framing conditions, obtain the replacement glass, and install it when conditions allow.

Can you match the appearance of the existing building glass?

In many cases, we can closely match the original glass. Exact matches may be difficult when the original product has been discontinued, has weathered over time, or is no longer produced. We will identify the available options and explain any expected visual differences before proceeding.

Do you replace tempered and laminated glass?

Yes. We measure and specify tempered, laminated, and other safety-glazing products and coordinate their production and installation. These products must be manufactured or processed before arriving at the project site and cannot be cut after tempering.

Can you replace glass without replacing the complete window or storefront?

Often, yes. If the existing framing and related components remain serviceable, we may be able to replace only the glass. We will inspect the system and let you know if damaged framing, gaskets, sealants, or hardware also require attention.

How quickly can replacement glass be installed?

The timeline depends on the glass type, size, coatings, safety requirements, fabrication details, and current material availability. Standard glass may be available relatively quickly, while tempered, laminated, insulated, oversized, or specialty glass generally requires additional production time. If the opening creates an immediate safety or security concern, we can provide emergency response and temporary protection while the permanent glass is being produced.

Glass Replacement Across the Puget Sound

Herzog Glass provides commercial and residential glass replacement across the Puget Sound region, including projects from Olympia to Bellingham and from Sequim to Issaquah. From a single failed insulated glass unit to replacement glass across multiple properties, our service team can coordinate the complete process.
